Jakson Inns, Phaltan

On a Friday evening, soon after work, we drove down to Phaltan to join a group of travellers at Jakson Inns, India’s first three star LEED GREEN platinum rated hotel.

A warm welcome
It was 9 pm when we reached the hotel and coming directly from work, I was already exhausted. A warm welcome by the staff and a glass of fresh sugarcane juice was all that was needed to refresh myself from the journey. The check-in was absolutely smooth and I was directed to my single lady traveller’s room. What sets this room apart from the rest? It has a video doorbell with phone and LCD screen to see who’s at the door, an added security feature for solo female travellers.

A peaceful slumber
Upon entering the room, I was surprised to see how big and luxurious it was and set exactly the way I had filled out in the preference sheet sent to me over email – my choice of pillows, beverages and choice of newspaper. The room was furnished with a huge queen size bed, a study table and a comfortable sofa chair. It also had a flat screen TV (yay! A TV to myself for the weekend), tea and coffee maker, free WiFi connectivity and a large laptop size safe.

The bathroom had a shower cubicle and all the toiletries you’d ever need while on holiday – even a pumice stone to pamper your feet!

So many toiletries – loofah bath pad, pumice stone, dental kit, cotton pads, nail shaper etc.

After relishing some of the dishes at mango-themed buffet dinner, I headed back to my room to catch a good night’s sleep. The mattress was comfortable and the soft feather pillows were a treat.

Breakfast by the river
The next morning, we headed to a nearby farm for breakfast. Jakson Inns had set up a lovely canopy by the river where they served fresh fruits, muffins, eggs made to order and yummy parathas.

We also visited the tomato plantations and the sugar cane fields where we tried to chew on a raw sugarcane! The farmer invited us to his house and we listened to their stories of everyday life in the village – strange how happy they are without the sheer luxuries of life and in spite of having everything; we urban dwellers always strive for more!

A visit to the Royal Palace – Phaltan Rajwada
After a fun trip to the farm, we headed to the Phaltan Rajwada, the former residence of the Phaltan royal family. I was amazed by the grandeur of this heritage palace, an architecture marvel not to be missed on your trip to Phaltan. The massive palace features spacious courtyards, a Darbar hall and two temples within the premises.

The hotel staff had thorough knowledge about the history and heritage of the palace and guided us around while we clicked photos and marvelled at the brilliant architecture. This is a private property and needs prior permission for access, but if you’re in a group, Jakson Inns can arrange this trip for you.

Picnic under the windmills at sunset
Located just an hour’s drive from Jackson Inns is Pusegaon with gigantic windmills set against the backdrop of hilly peaks and lush countryside. We drove down to the windmills farm just before sunset and honestly, the experience here was the highlight of the entire trip.

The wind was blowing heavily, brushing through my hair and messing it all up. I sat under the blades of a massive windmill with a glass of wine and admired the colourful sky at sunset – absolutely divine! A picnic set up was arranged for us with wine, sandwiches and chips at wonderful spot, perfect to watch the sun go down.

Unique Experiences around Phaltan
With countless hours of work, crazy schedules and a hectic lifestyle, it’s high time we ditch the same run-of-the-mill travel experiences and explore something unique and fun. By offering unique experiences such as farm trips, nature treks, village tours, culture trips and picnics to the windmill farm, Jakson Inns is trying to promote eco-tourism in Phaltan by partnering with the local communities around Satara.

Apart from the above experiences, there’s plenty to see and do around Phaltan – Aundh museum for art lovers, Ajinkya Tara for trekking enthusiasts, farm tour at Krishi Vigyan Kendra and lots more.

Culinary Delights
We had a variety of cuisines to savour during our two-day stay at Jackson Inns. Green Bean, their multi-cuisine restaurant features a variety of cuisines – from local Maharashtrian meals such as Pithla Bhakri to Asian curries, Mughlai food, Chinese, Italian etc. to suit every fussy traveller’s tastebuds(that’s me! haha). Our dinner on the first day was a special Mango feast where every dish was cooked with mango, even the curries and soup! Being a picky eater, I didn’t particularly enjoy mango in every dish but was fun to try them all.

I’d recommend going for their a la-carte menu so that you can pick and choose as per your taste. I particularly loved the Fish Masoor Tikka and the Veg Thai Green Curry.

The breakfast buffet was extravagant – cereal, fresh fruits, eggs and dosas made to order, parathas, south Indian food, breads and tea/coffee/juice. For special occasions, you can request them to set up a canopy in the outdoor courtyard, especially for dinner with dim lighting in the garden.

Jakson Inns, Phaltan is an excellent choice for families, business travellers, couples, and just about anyone. The staff here are flawless and the service goes far beyond helping you with your bags. Right from the moment I checked in, they took care of every little thing from choice of food to beverages to organising tours around. The hotel staff – Olivia, Ditesh, Sachin made every effort to ensure that we had a comfortable stay.

Mr. Gautam Banerjee, GM Jakson Inns took us on a property tour of the hotel. They have a special suite with state-of-art technology for the physically challenged. They also have a fully equipped gymnasium, spa and plans are in place for a pool and amusement park.

We truly enjoyed our stay in Phaltan. Thanks to Soraya and the entire team for organising a fab trip.
